ABOUT

SPYF On Bikes Supports Local Communities

Unlike a regular bike shop, 100% of our profits go into helping neighbouring communities.

Your money enables us to give out free bikes to people in some of the poorest areas in Scotland. We fix bikes, teach everyone to cycle safely, and work with adaptive cycles. We are experts in ensuring that cycling is available for all.

Your money enables us to work with local young people, providing a fun, safe space for them to learn, develop, and try new things they wouldn't otherwise get a chance to do.

Your money enables us to provide a dignified response to food poverty by helping people to grow good food, cook good food and eat good food. We run weekly free community meals, a low-cost veg barra and growing sessions at numerous sites.

Your money enables us to provide a warm space for people to exercise, meet and eat together at both St Paul's Youth Forum/Church and our locally-run Molendinar Community Centre.

Brief History

St Paul's Youth Forum is a community anchor organisation that was founded over 20 years ago. The organisation aims to alleviate the worst effects of poverty through exercise, eating, education and empowerment.

Its sub-project On Bikes was founded by a local community member. Since its inception, On Bikes has continuously grown and improved its diverse set of inclusive active travel interventions.

The project has handed out thousands of free bikes to those who cannot afford one; has provided regular high-quality cycling maintenance services in four cycling hubs; taught hundreds of young people to cycle safely; created mutually beneficial partnerships with organisations such as HMP Barlinnie and ng homes, and even led on a transformative infrastructure project called Flourishing Molendinar for several years.

To safeguard itself against the volatile nature of active travel funding and increase the project's long-term sustainability, the organisation opened a shop and created an organisation called SPYF On Bikes Ltd in 2024. The aim of the shop is to generate additional revenues that directly benefit local community members.
